Description of embroidery patterns.

Description of embroidery patterns.

No. 1. A bouquet for a pillowcase, embroidered with satin stitch. The leaves have a small grid pattern in the center. This bouquet can be placed anywhere on the pillowcase near the edge, on one side or the other. The letters are embroidered next to the half-garland. The pillowcase is edged all around with an embroidered ruffle.

No. 2. Pattern for an embroidered pillowcase. Pillowcases are usually one and three-quarter cubits long and one and a half cubits wide. No. 3. Embroidery for a pillowcase cut with teeth. Holes are made in the teeth on both sides for bone or mother-of-pearl buttons. The most beautiful inserts for such pillowcases are silk, but since they are not accessible to everyone, ordinary smoke-colored inserts can be sewn with a silk stripe in the place where the pillowcase fastens with buttons.

No. 5.

No. 6.

Finishing the mitten around the fingers.

No. 7. Collar of black crepe, embroidered with a silk cord. Around the neck, the collar is made of single crepe. The design is embroidered on double crepe and edged with small teeth on both sides. The same design can be embroidered with white cord on similar batiste.

No. 8. Cuff matching the collar.

No. 9. Half-batiste crocheted collar, with a similar crocheted ruffle in small teeth.

No. 10. Collar for a small boy, fastening at the back with buttons.

No. 11. Design for a sofa cushion.—List of necessary items: A square of blue cashmere or Tibet wool, 55 centimeters, narrow black velvet ribbon, 1 centimeter, a piece of crimson velvet, silver cord, and black, crimson, and white silk.—First, the blue cashmere must be evenly, but diagonally, lined with a crimson pencil. In the places where the black velvet ribbon will be, stiff muslin is sewn underneath on the left side, and then the velvet ribbon is basted on the right side, which must be sewn onto the cashmere with black silk using a chain stitch. The stars are cut from crimson velvet and edged all around with silver cord, which must first be threaded from the left side with a thick yarn needle to sew and secure it there. Blue cashmere embroidered with black velvet ribbon and stars made of black or white pearls, bought by the ounce in shells, creates a very pretty effect. For the lining, fabric or cashmere in the background color of the cushion is usually used, edged all around with passementerie cord, from which knots can be made at the corners.

Nos. 12 and 13. Designs for handkerchiefs.
